Last full day!

We have finished our last full week of school!!

We will be dismissing for half-days next week. If your child is staying for extended, they will need to bring their lunch. The dress code will be jeans and a t-shirt each day.

We had park day on Wednesday, and it was perfect! Everyone was on their best behavior and we had unbelievable weather. Our class played games of kickball and baseball and played on the playground for hours. The tire swing seemed to be the biggest hit of all! We also got to cheer on the seniors as they walked through the school before Baccalaureate.
Here are a few pictures from our fun-filled week!

Willy Wonka and Field Day

I wanted to start off by saying how proud I am of the students who participated in the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory play this past weekend. They all did a wonderful job! I've attached a few pictures below for those that were not able to see it in person.

Today, we had Field Day and it was perfect. We had beautiful weather for all 16 students to do endless activities. We raced, did gymnastics, bounced around, and finished with tug-o-war against the 4th grade. Our class giggled their way through the entire day. Be sure and check out the class pictures from the fun-filled day!

Next week will mainly be a review week and then May 13-17 (half-days) will be the last week of school. They have had such a great year and I cannot wait for them to finish strong. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Achievement Tests are over!

I am so proud of your kids for doing such a wonderful job on their achievement tests this week; They kept their focus throughout the entire week. We were still celebrating from Boosterthon with many fun events. Mr. Riley had to wear Tennessee orange and get pied in the face because our school raised $15,000- Way to go!! After we finished pieing Mr. Riley in the face, we got to go watch the older kids run in their ColorRun.  We also had a kickball game with the 4th grade as one of their money incentives. Next Friday, the 27th, is field day, which will consists of fun physical activities outside- we hope you will be able to join us for part of the day. Here are a few pictures from our past week.

Jukebox Time Machine

The 3rd and 4th grade students put on a wonderful performance for Jukebox Time Machine! I was blown away by all the hard work that they put into the play, and it definitely paid off! Below, I have included some pictures from the actual play. Once again, I just want to say THANK YOU to the parents for all the hard work you put in as well. The play could not have happened without you all!

This past week, we started our class garden. At some point in the upcoming week, we will be moving it from our classroom to our class planter out behind STEM. Another big thing happening this week, is achievement testing; Testing will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Monday, April 16th, is the art show! EACH student will have a piece of their artwork framed. On this night only, you can purchase the frame to go along with their artwork. We would love for you to come out from 6-8 pm and see all of the wonderful artwork!

Castle Quest and the Nashville Zoo

What an exciting week it has been! We kicked off our Castle Quest which is our theme for Spring Sprint. Be sure that you have signed your child up on www.funrun.com. Right now, the current challenge is to raise $2 more dollars per lap. Prizes are given for each pledge that is given. Here is a picture of the fun pep rally they had to kick off the event!

Another fun thing we did was take our field trip to the Nashville Zoo! We split up into groups to explore the zoo and see all the different animals. Then we enjoyed lunch and games in the open field. Lastly, they got to end the day playing on the zoo playground. Here are a few pictures that were snapped when the students were actually sitting still!

Be sure to keep raising pledges for Castle Quest!!!

St. Patrick's Day!

What a fun Friday it has been! We celebrated St. Patrick's Day a little early with some sweet green treats.
This week we practiced poetry and plays. Each day, the students worked on writing either a free verse or narrative poem of their own. They presented them to the rest of the class; I loved seeing the excitement they had in sharing their creative work. Our reading for the week was a play called "The Baker's Neighbor", and we focused on fluency and inflection while reading it aloud. Today the students got into 2 groups and read it aloud. Their improvement, from the beginning of the week to today's reading, was incredible. Overall. their behavior and effort this week was phenomenal!!!

Next week, we will dive deeper into fractions for math, as well as energy and motion for science. We will have a quiz over Australia on Monday, and then we will begin learning about Africa.
On Thursday, March 22, we will have a FIELD TRIP to the Nashville Zoo. Students will need to bring a sack lunch.
Here are some fun pictures from our class this week- enjoy!

Australia and Bobsleds

Last week we began our unit study on Australia and focused on the major landforms and places within the continent. We completed our tests on two step division problems and order of operations. On Tuesday of this week, we will have our chapter 10 science test. Our class went to the STEM Lab for a second time kast week to complete a winter olympics activity. They got into groups and built their own bobsleds; They had 2 chances to try and make their bobsled be the fastest. We also completed the first half of our black history month poster. We will complete the second half this week, while learning more about the important people on the poster.
This week is Read Across America Week so if any of you all would like to come in and read to our class, please email me. We can find a time that works for you!

Happy Friday!

Another week has come and gone in 3rd grade and what a fun week it was!
We had a small class Valentine's Day party along with donuts with dad and muffins with mom. I loved seeing all the sweet parents, grandparents, and loved ones coming to eat with their children.

We finished our unit on Asia and Antarctica this week and we are now moving on to Australia. In math, we have entered into more difficult division. The problems now consist of 2 step problem solving by using different operations. Please be practicing at home!

Our chapel speaker on Thursday was wonderful- He taught us how we always wear our favorite team's colors proudly and that is how we all should wear Jesus. We have been trying to focus on that lesson throughout the week.

Since our school did so well in the canned food drive, we got the reward of wearing jeans and an Ezell Harding t-shirt everyday next week. Remember, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 19th.
Enjoy your long weekend!

Charlie Brown

What a fun week it has been!

On Wednesday we went to Mt. View Baptist Church to see the play You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. The kids loved the play but the highlight for them was getting to eat lunch with the actors and actresses afterwards. There are pictures from the field trip below.
This week, we wrapped up chapter 9 on Matter and are now moving on to chapter 10. We will also be finishing our unit on the geography of Asia and Antarctica.
Progress reports go out tomorrow so be on the lookout for those!

Also, remember that the cookie dough fundraiser is still going on!!
Just a reminder, donuts with dad is February 15th from 7:00-8:00 am and muffins with mom is the following day, the 16th, from 7:00-8:00. Have a great weekend!

100th day

What an amazing week!

Our class had an excellent week, but especially because we celebrated the 100th day of school and won class of the week 3 times. For our 100th day of school, we had STEM stations centered around the number 100, we had to stack 100 cups as a class, and we had 100 themed snacks! I will include some pictures below. On Tuesday February 6th, we will be taking our field trip to see You're a Good Man Charlie Brown so each student will need to pack a sack lunch. We will finish up our chapters on matter as well as Asia and Antarctica this week. We will also continue on with chapter 7 in math. It is unbelievable how fast the year is going by. Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions.

Wednesday, January 31st, will be our 100th day of school and it is so hard to believe that we have already been in school for 100 days. Our test this week will be back to our normal schedule. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Snow Days

What a short week it was due to all of these snow days!

We are getting all caught up from last week and hopefully by next week, we will be back into our normal routine!

We are moving right along through division and they are picking it up quickly. We did a brief review of chapter 8: the Solar System, which was from the Eclipse week. We also finished a unit on prefixes and they took an online quiz today along with their vocab and Bible tests. Next week, we will really begin learning about matter, Asia, and much more.
As we transition into this semester, remember, students should become more independent- We will work on preparing them for 4th grade.
Today we also learned a little bit about Martin Luther King Jr. Here is a picture of our class with our January bulletin board.

Remember, assignments, vocabulary words, and spelling words will all be posted on RenWeb.

Have a great weekend!!

Christmas Festivities!

Hello!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break! I just wanted to say I am extremely thankful to have all 16 of my students.....they really are the best! I missed each and every one of them so much over break. They jumped right back into the swing of things when they returned to school. Hopefully all the sickness is behind us! Here are a few pictures from our super fun class party, Christmas present swap game, and lower school caroling.
